This pattern is perfect for beginners or those who want a really quick project! The hipster only takes about an hour to make (for those with basic to intermediate skills), and is perfect for a day of shopping when you don't want a huge bag to carry around, but you do need something large enough to carry your essential items. It features one large interior pocket, an over-the-body shoulder strap, and fabric covered button closure (no button holes required!).
Required Materials:
• ½ yard focus fabric (fabric with an obvious up and down pattern not recommended)
• 1/3 yard coordinating fabric (fabric with an obvious up and down pattern not recommended)
• 1/3 yard lightweight fusible fleece (I use Pellon brand #987)*
• 1 1/8” fabric covered button kit (in the notions area of your fabric store) OR regular 1 1/8” button
• 3” length of 1/8” wide elastic
• swivel hook (in the notions area)
• thread to match focus fabric
• erasable marker or pencil
• rotary cutter & mat OR ruler & scissors
*If you prefer a lighter weight bag, you may want to buy an additional 1/3 yard of lightweight fusible interfacing for the lining. Instead of using two pieces of fusible fleece for both the exterior and lining, simply cut one 10”x22” rectangle of the fusible fleece for the exterior of the bag, and one 10”x22” rectangle of the lightweight fusible interfacing for the lining.
